Meet the Unassuming Golf Gem of South OKC

3 minutes

Vibrant green grass with just a touch of morning dew. Sunny days with a light, crisp breeze. A tee placed in the earth for what is hopefully going to be the ideal swing. It's the perfect mix of tension and relaxation.

If you've driven on Interstate 44 south of Moore, you've probably noticed JR's Pub & Grill to the east. This pub and grill offers more than just cold drinks and fresh food, though.

Established in 1986, JR's has been teeing up a number of ways to have fun for almost forty years. There's special events, a golf course, a driving range, and mini golf. Golfing amenities open at 8 a.m. seven days a week. Guests also can play the courses and practice their swing until well past dusk, as each is lit after dark.

The golf course is nine holes, with each being a par three hole. Coming from a just-starting-out golfer, the course is perfect to gain experience without having to be overwhelmed by larger area courses. It's also just a fun way to get in a quick game with friends. The course is always well maintained, and even recently received new gravel cart paths. There's also a vending machine on the pub's patio that is filled with tees, ball markers, and extra golf balls in case anyone has forgotten anything, or loses a few too many balls to the water like I sometimes do.

Golfing activities of all sorts are a major draw at JR's, but it would be a mistake to leave without ordering a cold drink or delicious burgers and pub fare from their food menu. Photo by Kiersten Stone

The driving range has plenty of tee boxes, so it’s easy to go out and have your own space to practice without waiting. Visitors can purchase large or small buckets of range balls. A small bucket is thirty-five balls, and a large is seventy. The mini golf course is also great for practicing putting.

JR’s Pub & Grill is a place made for building community and having a good time. It’s easy to become a regular there if you aren’t already.
