This week on the Oklahoma Today Podcast, Editor in Chief Nathan Gunter and Web Editor Greg Elwell interview Charlie and Crystal, organizers of the annual Hydro Free Fair, running this year August 17-19.
From classic carnival rides—including a restored carousel that's been part of the fair for decades—to livestock judging and rodeo, the Hydro Free Fair is a great chance to experience and support small-town businesses and the community. The Hydro Free Fair has been a yearly occurrence in the town since 1907—the same year Oklahoma became a state—with a short break for the first World War.
Also on this week’s podcast, the editors talk about their own favorite small towns in the state. Since producing Oklahoma Today takes them all over Oklahoma, the editors spend plenty of time reporting on and enjoying communities from the Panhandle all the way to the Little River.
Podvents from this episode come, as always, from TravelOK.com. Here's what the editors discussed:
Rush Springs Watermelon Festival & Rodeo, August 10-12 in Rush Springs.
Wichita Tribal Dance, August 10-13 in Anadarko.
USA Softball All-American Games, August 10-13 in Oklahoma City.
New Kids on the Block in concert, August 11 in Durant.
Illuminate Arts Festival, August 12 in Tulsa.
