September is here, which means there's a brand new issue of Oklahoma Today on the stands. On this episode of the podcast, the editors crack open the new issue—on newsstands now—to discuss the wide variety of interesting overnight destinations popping up across the state, including those featured in the "Crazy Overnights" story. The editorial team went all over the state to find urban treehouses, three-story playground cabins, rooms where elephants stop by for a snack, and more.

In addition to fun places to stay, the staff touch on the excellent new "Tales from the Dark Side" feature from reader favorite author Gordon Grice, which explores the habits and habitats of nocturnal animals that call Oklahoma home, Preston Jones' exploration of Tulsa as America's next great music city, and the colorful collection of vintage neon signs and modern illuminated structures that keep Oklahoma bright after the sun goes down in "Lite Brite."

Also on the podcast, the editors tackle must-have amenities and disqualifying demerits when choosing a new place to stay for an evening and hear from friends on social media about what they look for before booking a room. Follow Oklahoma Today on Facebook and Instagram to take part in the conversation.

Podvents from this episode come, as always, from TravelOK.com. Here's what the editors discussed:

Sunny Dayz Mural Festival in Tulsa

The Fish Bowl in Eufaula

Charlie Adams Day in Newkirk

India Food & Arts Festival in Oklahoma City
