Weekly Events Calendar, April 18-24, 2022

Each week, Oklahoma Today staffers comb through their calendars to find a handful of great events happening across the state. Get out! See Oklahoma! And be sure to let us know what you find, either here or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at @oklahomatoday.

Pioneer Tales

It’s said that if every human being who has ever lived was put in the Grand Canyon there’d be plenty of room to spare. But the filing system would be problematic at best. Instead, the much easier to sort Clinton Cemetery Sunset Tour put on by the Western Plains Weatherford Genealogical Society allows living visitors to hear stories of those long since gone as guides tell the histories of some of the area’s earliest pioneers. In Their Memory

Oklahoma was forever changed on April 19, 1995 when a domestic terrorist exploded a bomb in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. Join the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum for the Day of Remembrance that celebrates the lives of those lost, those who survived, and the efforts to make Oklahoma and the world a better place for all. Multimedia

Arts can mean a lot of things. Painting and sculpture come immediately to mind, but what about crafting, music, dance, and even food? That’s why Oklahoma City’s arts festival is called the Festival of the Arts—there are representations of the visual, aural, and culinary arts, and much more! This six-day event is filled to the brim with creative works from more than a hundred artists, festival food favorites, and three stages filled with entertainment. April 19-24. Time for Wine

Art and wine seem like they'd go hand in hand, but most museums are resistant when guests show up with giant sippy cups of merlot. But at Tulsa's Philbrook Museum of Art, visitors can sit in on a lecture and Q&A with New York Times Wine Critic Eric Asimov as part of the Philbrook Wine Experience. With more than two decades of experience writing about wine, Asimov is an influential voice in the oenophile community. April 22. Tickets, $20. philbrook.org

Spin Right Round

Fans of rapping grannies and jokes about big hair can travel back to 1985 with The Wedding Singer at the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts at Oklahoma State University. Presented by OSU Theatre, this musical comedy is inspired by the Adam Sandler film of the same name and follows Robbie, a wedding singer who is dumped by his fiancée but finds solace and a brighter future when he meets banquet waitress Julia. April 21-24. Tickets, $7-$12. okstate.universitytickets.com
