Fairly Fun
Since 1915, the Mountain View Free Fair has provided hometown spirit and community fun to the town of Mountain View and surrounding environs. Revel in the old-timey fun with carnival rides, livestock shows, a tractor pull, and lots of tasty classic fare at the food stands. Every night there’s live entertainment and Saturday morning brings a parade to kick off a final day of fun. August 4-6. Admission, free. facebook.com/MtnViewFreeFair

No Acting Allowed
Truth is stranger than fiction, which is a big selling point for documentaries. See for yourself at DocOKC in Oklahoma City, the film festival that is all about true stories told by the people who experienced them. Topics run the gamut with features on historical true crime, Native American tribes, hog farming, human trafficking, and animal rescue.
August 4-7. Tickets, $10-$50. docokc.org
Extra Wow
Schools are opening again in the coming weeks, so get one last big cultural event under your family’s belts in Kaw City at the Kaw Nation Powwow. This three-day event includes plenty of full-regalia dancing, exhibitions, and audience participation. And come hungry, because food and craft vendors will have a full stock of tasty treats and memorable memorabilia to purchase. August 5-7. Admission, free. kawnation.com

Sun for Dayz
Anyone can make art, but not everyone has the access. That’s part of the mission of the Sunny Dayz Mural Festival, which is celebrating its second year focusing on female and non-binary artists. This year’s event happens in downtown Edmond, promising wall space for artists regardless of age, and helping raise a new generation of artists. Come watch as forty-two artists work to create thirty-one new murals in the city while enjoying live music on stage, vendors, and the obligatory food trucks. August 6. Admission, free. sunnydayzmuralfest.com

Bif, Bam, Pow, Etc.
Faster than a speeding bullet. More powerful than a radioactive spider. Darker than a knight and more iron than a man. Comic books are on TV screens and in theaters, but they’re especially at the Stride Banker Center for the Enid Comic Con. Now in its fourth year, this geeky gathering includes three cosplay contests, panels, special guests, and an avalanche of vendors with so many comics to sell they may have to invent a new hero. Some kind of Sales Man. August 6-7. Tickets, $10 per day. stridebankcenter.com/events/comic-con
