Each week, Oklahoma Today staffers comb through their calendars to find a handful of great events happening across the state. Get out! See Oklahoma! And be sure to let us know what you find, either here or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at @oklahomatoday.

Adults Gone Wild
After a brief hiatus, Mustang’s Wild Horse Opry returns with a few changes. It’s still open to residents age fifty-five and older who like listening to live music from the Wild Horse Band and hearing a guest speaker. Sadly, the dessert bar is not really an option in these COVID-19 times, but attendees will receive packaged chips and cupcakes and are welcome to bring their own food or to purchase snacks at the concession stand. August 14. Admission, Free. (405) 376-1297 or facebook.com
Ride ‘Em
Half the fun of the rodeo is trying to figure out what the different events entail. So while we’re certain the participants in the two-day Elgin Rodeo will have a hoot competing, the audience will be just as enthralled with discovering what “double muggin’” and “break away roping” is all about. Enjoy live music both nights while snacking on concessions provided by the Elgin Fire Department. August 14-15. Tickets, $4-$10. TravelOK.com

Murder Most Fun
Come for the murder, stay for the T-shirt. At the City of Ardmore’s Murder Mystery Dinner, absolutely everyone is a suspect. The culprit might even be dun-dun-duuuuuuun you, or someone else in your team of eight detectives/potential killers. Watch your back, and your step, as you grab a drink from the “Mystery on the Rocks” cash bar at the Ardmore Convention Center before enjoying dinner and an acoustic performance from Red Clay Gypsies. August 15. Tickets, $45. facebook.com
What a Catch
Remember watching Andy and Opie whistling their way to the fishing hole? If you’ve ever wanted your kids to learn how to fish but you don’t have the time or patience for the task, take them to Vian City Lake for the Kids' Fishing Clinic. Sponsored by Tenkiller State Park, this event teaches children ages four to sixteen about fishing and conservation through hands-on learning stations. Once the kids complete all the learning stations, they can fish in the stocked lake until lunchtime. Young anglers who complete the clinic will get a prize. August 15. Admission, Free. TravelOK.com

Heroes and Cons
There’s nothing wrong with a bit of escapism. If the world seems like a tough place to be right now, there’s a brief respite in Shawnee’s Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center. Shawnee Comic Con is a two-day gathering of comics, toys, art, games, and more. Whether they’re flying like a bird, swinging from webs, or just dressing like a bat for some sick reason, you can find it and share it here. August 15-16. Admission, $5. TravelOK.com
