Bright Lights
Sure, you could drive to the airport, buy tickets, fly for a few hours, land, catch a cab, pay your fare, stand in line, buy more tickets, and watch a Broadway musical in New York City's famed Broadway, but it sure is a lot easier and cheaper to get tickets for the St. Luke's Broadway Revue, which caps off a great season of shows in Oklahoma City. And if even getting out of your chair is too big an ask, there's even a livestream so you can enjoy the show from the comfort of wherever you are right this second. August 31. Tickets, $10-$20. stlukesokc.org
Red Dirt Route
Celebrate the Mother Road the Oklahoma way when the free Red Dirt music festival Rock the Route returns to Yukon. Listen to tunes from Muscadine Bloodline, Jack Ingram, and more on Main Street while chowing down on tasty food truck fare, or let the kids go wild with a variety of family friendly activities. Rock the Route, as resilient as Route 66 itself, will go on rain or shine, so grab a lawn chair and head to Yukon for a night of fun. September 1. Admission, free. yukonok.gov

Motors Running
As heard on the Oklahoma Today Podcast, Derrick Smith, Jr. is on a mission to preserve and spread the history of Oklahoma's all-black towns with his 13 Black Towns Motorcycle Tour. This traveling lesson on Oklahoma's past includes stops in Langston, Boley, Tullahassee, and Rentiesville. At the end of the road, there's a Sunday celebration in Smith's hometown of Tatums including a free concert, tasty foods, and shopping for souvenirs. September 1-3. Registration, free. 13blacktownstour.com
Up All Night
Who needs sleep? At the Dusk 'til Dawn Blues Festival in Rentiesville, the music is too good to stop until the sun comes up. Over three days—or nights, really—thirty bands will take the stage for an all-out blast of blues power. Concerts will be held both indoors and outdoors in Rentiesville, home of blues legend DC Minner, with workshops for up-and-coming musicians. Plus there's a kids village full of activities for younger visitors who haven't lived enough to really get the blues yet. September 2-4. Tickets, $18 per day. dcminnerblues.com

Delightful Destruction
It is dangerous to slow down and gawk at a car wreck on the highway. If the screech of metal on metal is what you desire, you won't be slowing anyone down as you watch the Oklahoma Beatdown Derby at the fairgrounds in Miami. Drivers will put their lemons on the line as they duke it out auto a auto in a battle for $11,000 in guaranteed prize money. September 3. Tickets, $15-$20. facebook.com
