On and On

Unmanned aircraft have been a great boon for the word drone, which previously mostly referred to bees, beetles, or the way your great uncle talks about the benefits of investing in an IRA. Get in on the fun kind of droning in Woodward during the Thunderbird Drone Festival. See the fruits of filmmakers' labors during the international drone film festival, check out tech you can use yourself, and watch for the surprisingly intense drone races. August 12-13. Tickets, $10-$50. thunderbirddronefestival.com

Up, Up, and Away

August is not lacking hot air, so why not make the most of it at the FireLake Fireflight Balloon Festival in Shawnee? More than a dozen hot-air balloons will launch from the Citizen Potawatomi Nation Powwow Grounds during this two-day festival. Take a ride for a view from the sky or enjoy plenty of fun on terra firma with a kids' zone stocked with inflatables, tasty food trucks, and vendors galore. August 12-13. Admission, free. firelakeballoonfest.com

Come Round

Looking for a shady spot? Just follow the sound of the music, as the Round Barn Ramblers prove that the grass is bluer on the other side at the Round Barn in Arcadia from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. You'll be grinning while band members are picking amid the charming backdrop of this historic venue. Grab a bottle of Round Barn Root Beer and enjoy this classic American musical genre. August 13. Admission, free. arcadiaroundbarn.com

Touching History

Tulsa's Mabee Center will be abuzz with Native American culture and archaeology enthusiasts during the fifteenth annual Indian Nations Artifact and Fossil Show. Browse booths as vendors part with ancient arrowheads, tools, relics, and fossils. Handcrafted jewelry lovers will want to keep an eye on the expansive selection of gemstones on display. When the shopping is done, keep the fun going with free entry to the Oral Roberts University Willard Elsing Museum. August 13. Admission, $5. inafshow.wordpress.com

Surf's Up

The only place better to be in Oklahoma in August than on the water is in the water and RIVERSPORT's Summer Music Series is making it easy to keep cool while listening to some cool music. Rockers Unlikely Candidates will keep cranking tunes while audiences enjoy food truck fare on the shore and floating in the lower pond. August 13. Tickets, $10. riversportokc.org
