Head to Circle Cinema in Tulsa for the Black Love film series, just in time for Valentine's. Photo by Lori Duckworth
Love is in the Air
Black History Month covers the important and often uncomfortable past of the African-American experience, but it's also a time to celebrate progress and the intimate stories of modern life. During Circle Cinema's Black Love screening series in Tulsa, audiences will enjoy classic and contemporary romance films that showcase the Black experience, including a showing of the 1997 romantic drama Love Jones. Take in the cult classic with a movie-themed cocktail and a live performance by local R&B singer OmaleyB. February 14. Tickets, $13. circlecinema.easy-ware-ticketing.com
The Great Escape
It was a different time is a phrase modern parents get to say a lot, especially when confronted with language use that hasn't kept up with modern mores. With a sigh of relief, families can enter Oklahoma City's Lyric Theatre for Huckleberry Finn's Big River knowing that this classic tale is easier to enjoy without quite so much explanation. Join Huck Finn and his friend Jim, now an enslaved teen of the same age, on their rollicking escape to freedom. February 16-March 11. Tickets, $20-$25. lyrictheatreokc.com

Count Your Pennies
Whether you've got an 1849 Double Eagle worth $20 million or you're extremely optimistic about the resale value of Pogs, it's worth a trip to Duncan to see the Stephens County Coin Show at the Stephens County Fair & Expo Center. Admission and parking are free, which is weird, considering you'd think the organizers would be trying to get more coins, but that just means visitors can peruse the rows and rows of coins or even sell their own. Spoiler alert: Those vintage Chuck E. Cheese tokens aren't the gold mine we were promised. February 17-18. Admission, free. coinzip.com
Calming Fun
Even those who are not neurodivergent can attest that sometimes big crowds are too loud to concentrate, much less enjoy an activity. At Lawton's Museum of the Great Plains, staffers have created a less-stimulating environment during Neuro Night. A sensory-friendly evening for guests with autism, ADD, ADHD, or other types of neurodivergence, Neuro Night lets visitors go at their own pace in an environment more in tune with their needs. February 18. Admission, free. discovermgp.org
Celebrate Presidents' Day in Tishomingo with a trout fishing derby. Photo by James Hills
Hail to the Trout
We can thank George Washington for the existence of Presidents' Day, but at Tishomingo's Presidents' Day Blue River Trout Derby, maybe we should be thanking Grover Cleveland, Herbert Hoover, and Jimmy Carter. After all, those three were celebrated anglers, even during their time in office. Hoover and Cleveland even wrote books on fishing, so maybe read up before you hit the Blue River for two days of pulling trout out of the water. February 18-19.
