Legendary Pipes
The McKnight Center for the Performing Arts in Stillwater is presenting couples with an impossible choice by bringing singing legend and acclaimed actress Bernadette Peters to Oklahoma for a concert on Valentine’s Day. Anyone who loves music will want to see the Grammy, Tony, and Golden Globe winner perform, but to bring this ageless beauty to town on the most romantic day of the year spells trouble for audience members who will no doubt mumble Ms. Peters’ name in their sleep for months after the show. Know Your History
Between the years 1865 and 1920, African-American residents created more than fifty All-Black towns and settlements in Oklahoma. Learn more about the creation and enduring legacy of the towns, some of which survive to this day, at A History of Oklahoma’s All-Black Towns with Dr. Karlos Hill in the Ralph Ellison Library in Oklahoma City. Feet.,Toons, Tim, NPR Desk Concerts—tiny is in. So it’s no wonder the cool cats at the Tulsa Foundation for Architecture are getting in on the fun with Tiny Tours that cover a single building and last about an hour. This week guests can learn about how Tulsa’s first water treatment plant became one of the city’s favorite art spaces during the WaterWorks Art Center Tiny Tour. February 17. Fiddlers’ Sticks
Violins and fiddles are the same instrument. The only difference is how they’re played. See for yourself when some of the finest string pluckers and bowers converge at Sequoyah State Park Lodge in Wagoner for the State Fiddlers Winter Convention. Come to play, listen, or dance a jaunty step during this three-day event full of jam sessions, workshops, and a whole lot of rug cutting. February 17-19. Hook ‘Em
Anglers can pull more than fish when the President’s Day Blue River Trout Derby comes to Tishomingo. With more than $1,000 in trophies and door prizes up for grabs, including awards for heavy stringer and heaviest trout, the Blue River Public Fishing and Hunting Area will be full of lines begging for a nibble. Watching is free and fun, but those interested in taking home dinner and a prize will need to register for the derby. February 19-20. Registration, $20-$25. chickasawcountry.com
