Weekly Events Calendar, January 24-30, 2022

Each week, Oklahoma Today staffers comb through their calendars to find a handful of great events happening across the state. Get out! See Oklahoma! And be sure to let us know what you find, either here or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at @oklahomatoday.

Ice Guys

Dance like nobody’s watching at Oklahoma City’s The Criterion when electronic dance mavens Dillon Francis and Yung Gravy bring their Sugar, Spice, and Everything Ice tour to town. Why? Because nobody will be watching you dance. That’s generally what happens at concerts, since audiences are often more interested in seeing artists perform than they are watching a stranger bust a move in a darkened music venue. January 24. Tickets, $39.50-$59.50. criterionokc.com

She Shoots!

The Big 12 battle for Oklahoma dominance comes to Norman’s Lloyd Noble Center this week, when the University of Oklahoma Sooners “welcome” the Oklahoma State University Cowgirls for Bedlam 2022. Ranked fourteenth in the country, OU has home court advantage, but the wily Cowgirls never go down without a fight. January 26. Tickets, $5-$15. soonersports.com

Spring Dreams

Preparation is the key to home renovation. Doing work on one’s home is not the right task to try winging it. That’s a great reason to visit the Green Country Home & Garden Show at the Tulsa Expo Center. Meet with home companies, learn about outdoor living ideas, check out cookware, and more before picking up a sledgehammer and inadvertently knocking down a load-bearing wall. January 28-30. Admission, Free. coxradiotulsa.com

Not So Far Away

See the little-known 1978 art film Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope in the classiest way possible—with a full orchestra playing along. Visitors to the Tulsa Performing Arts Center can watch as a princess, an interplanetary delivery man, the voice of the cartoon Joker, and a giant space Afghan Hound fighting against a heavily armored asthmatic on the big screen while the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra plays the iconic John Williams’ Oscar-winning score. Alumnus Weekend

Oklahoma State University alumni are known to frequently visit the Stillwater campus for basketball games, homecoming celebrations, and giant plates of Eskimo Joe’s cheese fries. But when operatic soprano Sarah Coburn comes back to OSU, it’s a little different. In addition to spending a week mentoring students, she’s putting on a show of her favorite songs and arias at the McKnight Center for the Performing Arts. No word yet on her feelings about cheese fries. January 29. Tickets, $30-$100. mcknightcenter.org
