Fine Folk

The years have been kind to the memory of Okemah native Woody Guthrie, considered one of the greatest and most important musicians to ever come out of the Sooner State. Celebrate his legacy the way he would've wanted at the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival in Okemah, where musicians, music lovers, history buffs, poets, and more will converge to play, listen, talk, and teach on this land that belongs to you and me. July 12-16. Tickets, $10-$85. woodyfest.com

Stop, Recreate, and Listen

July is Park and Recreation Month, which seems completely out of whack. Parks are a draw all year long, and life would be pretty sad if we only recreated for one month a year. But the Recreation Celebration at Ardmore Community Water Park is perfectly situated in July, as the entire state would love to splash around cool off. The first fifty people in the gate get a go-kart ride at The Clubhouse, but there's plenty of fun regardless of when guests arrive. July 15. Admission, $3-$5. ardmorecity.org

Just Peachy

It's a little-known fact, but the best things in life all involve peaches. Desserts, like cobbler and peaches with cream. Peach fuzz, both on peaches and teen-age chins. The Peach Pit, from Beverly Hills, 90210. But nothing is more peach-tastic than the annual Stratford Peach Festival at Stratford City Park. Enjoy a scoop of homemade peach ice cream. Watch as the Peach Royalty is crowned, then listen to local singers compete for Peach Idol. What do peaches have to do with turtle races? One assumes the reward for the winner is a perfectly ripe Stratford peach. July 15. Admission, free. facebook.com

Rock and Roll

Not to brag, but some of us don't need to work hard to get injured on roller skates. For the rest, there’s Twister City Roller Derby's Dog Days of Derby at the Arctic Edge Arena in Edmond. Round and round they go in a battle that’s physical, theatrical, and so fast audiences are afraid to blink and miss the action. Tornado Alley takes on the South Central Roller Girls while the Outlaws face off against the Lightning Quads on the hardwood. July 15. Tickets, $15-$20. facebook.com

Bending and Beers

Ever tried the lotus position with a lager? A sour during the sukhasana? Witbier and the warrior post? Loosen up in more ways than one with Yoga @ 405 Brewing in Norman. The hour-long class is a ticketed event, but the first beer is included in the price. Fusion Fitness will be there to guide guests through a flexible foray with an intoxicating twist. July 16. Tickets, $20. 405brewing.com
