One in a Melon
Do the “Watermelon Crawl” all the way to Valliant for the annual Watermelon Festival. This is the festival's eighteenth year celebrating all things watermelon. For two days, festival-goers can watch the men's and women's basketball tournament, hope for some candy to be thrown their way at the watermelon parade, and check out cool rides at the car and bike show. The more competitive visitors can try their hand at the watermelon-eating and seed-spitting contests, or catch the turtle and weenie races for some not-quite-heart-pounding entertainment. Don't forget to check out all the watermelon eats and watermelon-themed photography contest, too! July 26-27. Admission, free. (580) 933-5050 or valliantchamber.org.
Lake the Pot
Play your cards right and you might just have a great time at the Lake Tenkiller Poker Run in Cookson. Contestants are given a hand of cards at the start station, but will need to travel to stations around the lake to play the rest of the game and collect winning cards. Participants can make their way to the stations by water or land, depending on their preference. Winning hands receive door prizes at the end of the day. July 27. Admission, $10. (918) 346-3210 or tenkillerpokerrun.com.
