Think you and your friends know the world of JK Rowling's Harry Potter? Test your mettle against other trivia teams at Harry Potter Trivia Night.
Granger Things
July 31 is the fateful night Harry Potter first (fictionally) entered the world. Celebrate his birthday at the Full Circle Bookstore in Oklahoma City during Harry Potter Trivia Night. Team up with your favorite Potter pals for a night in Hogwarts. Hogwarts, A History is not necessarily required reading, but it never hurt Hermione’s luck and wouldn’t hurt your team’s chances of winning the prizes available for the top three teams. July 31. Admission, free. (405) 842-2900 or fullcirclebooks.com.
Just You ‘n’ Me ('n' a Whole Lot of Chicago Fans
With twenty-three certified gold albums, eighteen platinum albums, and eight multi-platinum albums, Chicago is one of America’s greatest rock bands. This renowned group is known for hits including “Saturday in the Park,” “Hard to Say I’m Sorry,” and “Colour My World.” They bring their talents to the River Spirit Casino in Tulsa this week. August 1. Tickets, $76-$450. (888) 748-3731 or riverspirittulsa.com.
Cherokee Maidens with Sycamore Swing.
Take Me Back to Perkins
The Old Church Center is a storied building that has served Perkins for more than a hundred years. Though it began as—you guessed it— a church, it has since been restored and donated to the town as a concert venue. Cimarron Breeze concerts present Cherokee Maidens with Sycamore Swing. The female trio and their backing band makes audiences swoon with covers of Western swing favorites and a little bit of jazz. Bring your two-stepping boots and grab a plate at the potluck before the trio croons you into the night. August 2. Tickets, $30. (405) 612-3183 or cimarronbreeze.com.
Learn the history of pho and other delicious dishes at the Asian District Cultural and Culinary Tour.
Stand Bahn Mi
Julia Child said it best: “People who love to eat are always the best people.” Food has an extraordinary way of bringing people together, but also in telling stories about where we come from. Join the Asian District Cultural and Culinary Tour in Oklahoma City to explore district hot spots and learn the history and culture that influences their dishes. Try spring rolls, báhn mì, pho, and other Asian delights as you learn about the tales behind the tastes as told by tour guides. August 3. Tickets, $45. (888) 203-4469 or eventbrite.com.
Reading, writing and buying new clothes are on the agenda for shoppers at the Back to School Boutique Blowout.
Escape From The Mall
It's shudder almost time for school, again. Every August, students and parents begin shopping for back-to-school clothes, shoes, and supplies. But that doesn't mean you have to brave the crush of other shoppers at the mall. The Indie Trunk show's Back to School Boutique Blowout in Oklahoma City brings together small boutiques who can accommodate thousands of shoppers with unique finds from local businesses. Shop the summer sales racks and fresh, fall inventory of more than a hundred retail clothing and jewelry boutiques. August 3-4. Admission, $5. (405) 640-3964 or boutiqueblowoutokc.com.
