’Topes Lose?
Minor League Baseball history is fascinating and a little piece of that history is visiting Oklahoma City for a six-game series. The Albuquerque Isotopes were previously the Calgary Cannons, but when the new owners decided to move to Albuquerque, they decided not to reuse the city’s previous team name—The Dukes—and instead embrace the name suggested by “The Simpsons.” Oklahoma baseball fans can certainly understand, seeing as our ’89ers became RedHawks before reemerging as The Dodgers. Tasty Tribute
Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day, which comes in September, but it is a celebration of a victory against the French at the Battle of Puebla. But just because it’s a different holiday doesn’t mean you can’t have fun, like at the Calle Dos Cinco Noche de Tequila at the Yale Theater in Oklahoma City. Enjoy beer, wine, and six flights of tequila, as well as a tamale bar and live music while raising money for the Calle Dos Cinco scholarship fund. May 5. Tickets, $100. eventbrite.com

Hot Water
Things are getting steamy in Pawnee this week. Literally. The fifty-fifth annual Oklahoma Steam and Gas Engine Show at the Steam Park Grounds in Pawnee will feature plenty of old school equipment that’s run on gas and steam, like the 100-ton Corliss Steam Engine, a steam-powered sawmill, and more. Add in live entertainment and fun tractor games and it sounds like this event is full-steam ahead. May 6-8. Tickets, $10. facebook.com
850 Pounds of Delicious
Of all the wonderful things that come from Oklahoma—aircraft parts, wheat, Reba McEntire—it’s hard to do better than onion burgers . . . except for Reba. You can’t beat Reba. But El Reno will give it a shot during the El Reno Fried Onion Burger Day Festival, when residents will work together to make an 850 lb. onion burger. There’s also live music, a car show, vendors, food trucks, and a kids’ zone, because you have to do something to work off all those burgers. May 7. Admission, Free. elrenoburgerday.com

Czech It Out
While they’re not exactly the same thing, many Oklahomans associate kolaches with doughnuts. Taste the difference yourself at Prague’s annual Kolache Festival. While the fruit-filled sweet rolls are the main attractions, there’s much more to do. City Park hosts an Arts & Crafts Show while live music can be found at the Entertainment Grandstand. The kids' tractor pull promises to be a wild affair. Plus, stick around until evening to join the polka dancing in the streets. May 7. Admission, Free. praguekolachefestival.com
