Smooth Ride
Apologies to our friends from the south who seem to be having a bit of a bumpy journey, but it’ll be worth the trip to watch the Tulsa Drillers take on the Frisco RoughRiders of Texas. Depending on the degree of walloping they receive from the Drillers over the six-game series, the ride home might be even rougher. May 10-15. Tickets, $7-$17. milb.com

“Let’s keep politics out of entertainment” really won’t work when it comes to the works of William Shakespeare, but his timeless creations are enjoyable and enlightening all the same. Dive into a world of coups, a leader in exile, a cross-dressing noble and her confused paramour, and more when Oklahoma Shakespeare Presents: As You Like It in the Outdoor Shakespeare Gardens in Oklahoma City’s Paseo Arts District. May 12-14. Tickets, $25-$42. okshakes.org

Audiences will be waiting to sign on the dotted line for tickets to Tulsa Ballet’s Signature Series performance wrapping up the season. The Lorton Performance Center will see selections from Remember Our Song, O Balcão de Amor and Celestial Bodies. Adults with young children may want to skip this one as O Balcão contains scenes with mature subject matter. May 12-15. Tickets, $20-$105. tulsaballet.org
Tie One On
Where were you in 2002? Was it tying flies to catch smallmouth bass in Oklahoma? Then you probably already know about the Twentieth Annual Smallmouth Rendezvous & Fly Tying Extravaganza happening at the First Baptist Church in Tahlequah. Fly tyers from six different states will be there teaching the public how to tie their own flies and how to cast and set up a rod for beginning casters. Fishing guides will also be on hand to tell you the best places to drop a line. May 13-14. Admission, Free. (918) 360-2085 or (918) 931-0940
The fun doesn't have to get messy at the McAlester Italian Festival, but the spaghetti-eating competition definitely will. Photo courtesy McAlester Italian Festival
Red Sauce
Baseball. Picnics. Giant bowls of spaghetti. Depending on where you live, each one of these is considered a sign of spring’s arrival. That last one is especially true at the McAlester Italian Festival which returns with a massive arts-and-crafts show and plenty of that red sauce Italian food that put McAlester and Krebs on the map. May 13-14. Admission, Free. themcalesteritalianfestival.org
