Weekly Events Calendar: November 6-12

5 minutes

Each week, Oklahoma Today staffers comb through their calendars to find a handful of great events happening across the state. Get out! See Oklahoma! And be sure to let us know what you find, either here or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at @oklahomatoday.

That’s Fall, Folks

The transition into fall weather draws us into nature, so where better to frolic among the changing leaves than at beautiful Beavers Bend State Park in Broken Bow during the Beavers Bend Folk Festival & Craft Show. In addition to breathtaking scenery, enjoy folk and Celtic music from across the country, turn-of-the-century craft demonstrations, a petting zoo, food booths, and much more. A shuttle will be on hand to take guests from the free parking to the festival grounds. November 10-12. Admission, free. facebook.com/forestheritagecenter

First Skate

Needing to strap a blade to your feet is normally a sign that things are not going that well, but the exception to this rule is always during ice skating season. Satisfy that seasonal itch with this week’s debut of the BA Ice Rink in Broken Arrow. Find the rink just off of Main Street under the Farmer’s Market Pavillion. If you plan on bringing a group larger than 15, make a reservation on their website beforehand. November 10-January 7. Admission, $10-$13. baicerink.org

Salute to Veterans

Head to Midwest City this Friday morning and pay your respect to the men and women who have served in the United State military. The Midwest City Veterans Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. with a course crossing portions of Southeast 15th Street, South Douglas Boulevard, and East Reno Avenue. Dress warmly and keep an eye on the sky, as a special flyover is planned. November 10. Admission, free. midwestcityok.org

Building Community

Organized in part by Black Towns Municipal Management and Church Building and Loan Fund, the Black Towns Revival Weekend in the Tulsa area features a variety of events meant to help rebuild Tullahasse and Oklahoma’s other black townships. Tour Tullahassee (the state’s oldest surviving Black town); attend workshops; have breakfast in Boley; and view the documentary film It Takes a Village in Tulsa. Registration is open to all, and especially recommended for community members, stakeholders, and faith leaders November 10-13. Registration, $25-$75. blacktownsrw.com

Dogs in Disguise

Imagine if there was a day where we crossed Halloween with Thanksgiving and made it a celebration for dogs. Well actually there is no need to imagine it at all, because the holiday geniuses in Ardmore have given us Barksgiving, a day for dogs and their owners to gather at the dog park in Ardmore Regional Park. Current pets in their owners can register with the city and compete in the doggie costume contest, while prospective pet owners can adopt a loving pup from the Ardmore Animal Shelter booth on site. November 11. Admission, free. ardmorecity.org
