Tulsa's Brady Theater hosts comedy/music duo Tenacious D this week.
Tenaciously Tulsa
The Brady Theater is gladly throwing a pair of jokers in the deck this season by inviting Tenacious D to the Tulsa stage. Comedic/musical power couple Jack Black and Kyle Gass will bring their most recent project, Post-Apocalypto, in front of a live audience. The project was released in 2018 as an animated YouTube series, but Black and Gass are likely to bring even greater amounts of animation to their live performance. October 21. Tickets, $40-$70. Blind Native American sculptor Michael Naranjo, seen here in the upcoming documentary "Dream Touch Believe," will touch James Earl Fraser's sculpture "End of the Trail" at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.
A Touch of Brilliance
Native American veteran Michael Naranjo emerged from the Vietnam War without eyesight or the use of his right hand, but a legendary sculpting career sprouted in the wake of those challenges. Naranjo, whose sculptures are featured in the White House and the Vatican, will visit the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum to experience a piece that the artist finds especially touching. The museum invited Naranjo to touch James Earl Fraser’s plaster sculpture End of the Trail—a momentous occasion that Naranjo’s daughter plans to capture and ultimately feature in her documentary over her father’s remarkable life. October 24. Admission, Free. (405) 478-2250 or nationalcowboymuseum.org
Keep Your Eye on the Ball
Playing sports in the dark sounds like a recipe for disaster, but the Tahlequah City Golf Course has a luminous solution. Glow Golf, a fundraising event for the Tahlequah Public Schools Foundation, will light up the green in hopes of “lighting the path towards excellence.” Dinner will be provided before tee off, though doctors recommend waiting at least fifteen minutes after a meal before golfing in the dark. Registration is required. October 24. facebook.com
**Scary as Bell **
Tricks, treats, and quality eats will satiate every appetite in downtown Shawnee at this year’s Boo on Bell Festival. Carnival games, paranormal tours, and costume contests (for humans and dogs) will keep the cauldron bubbling all weekend. Live performances ranging from bands to BMX stunts and dozens of snacking opportunities will give guests no reason to leave; even so, the spooky campfire story sessions might send you running for cover. Cowan Around
The Old Church in Perkins is prepared to open its doors and dial up the volume for An Evening with John Cowan. The New Grass Revival front man and bass guitar legend will make a detour on his tour with The Doobie Brothers to pay a visit to Payne County. The concert will follow a potluck supper, and Tulsa songwriter Jared Tyler will start the night’s course of entertainment on a decidedly good note. October 26. Tickets, $40. cimarronbreeze.com
Crowds gather for an outdoor movie at the Wells Family Christmas Tree Farm in Norman.
