Unforgettable

If the depth and breadth of your pachyderm perception is that they have trunks, like peanuts, and there was one that could fly, then you really need to take a trip to Hugo for the Adult Elephant Expedition at the Endangered Ark Foundation. Not only will guests get some up-close-and-personal time with the elephants, but they'll leave with a better understanding of what makes these gentle giants tick. October 3. Tickets, $400. oklahomaawesomeadventures.com/elephant-expeditions

Eaten In Ada

Appetizers are sometimes the very best part of the meal and at the Taste of Ada event at Waddell Vineyard, guests will get small bites and sips from some of the city's best restaurants, liquor stores, and wineries. As if a night of food and fun in the picturesque winery isn't enough, visitors to Taste of Ada can also tap their toes to some live music, bid on local art, and take a chance on winning a door prize. October 4. $20-$25. adaartsok.org/taste-of-ada

Bird is the Word

Fall is a blessed time in Oklahoma. The days get shorter. The leaves turn yellow, orange, and red. The thermometers stop melting all the time. But there's another reason to celebrate in Grove as the thirty-ninth annual Pelican Festival welcomes the return of the American White Pelicans to the Grand Lake O' the Cherokees. Say hi to our feathered friends and enjoy the Miss Pelican Festival pageant, carnival, and some live entertainment. October 6-9. Admission, free. pelicanfestok.com

Spooky Stories

Dead men tell no tales, but the living just won't shut up. Hear for yourself during Tombstone Tales at the Enid Cemetery as costumed reenactors tell the stories of Ms. Roper, who was kidnapped and held for two months, a young woman who grabbed 180 acres in the Cherokee Outlet, Civil War veterans, and more. It's a haunted history lesson that's perfect way to get into the Halloween spirit. October 7-8. Tickets, $15. visitenid.org

Corn and Corgis

There's no hard-and-fast rule that only people who own Corgis are allowed at Hominystock in Hominy, but Corgi owners are definitely welcome to this celebration of these playful herding pups. Perhaps the non-dog-owning visitors just enjoy watching the pups waddle paw-a-paw during the Corgi races, or maybe they're there to feast on frankfurters during the hot dog-eating contest. Whatever brings them out, the town of Hominy is eager to welcome friends of the two- and four-legged varieties. October 8. Admission, free. facebook.com
