This Great Plains Country city came together in 1901 when reservation land taken from the Kiowa, Apache, and Comanche tribes were put up for sale as lots. A crowd of thirteen thousand occupied a city of tents waiting for the land sale and was winnowed down to two thousand five hundred residents. Though it was later named for a U.S. Vice President, it was initially known as “Ragtown,” possibly because all the early residences and businesses were tents.

What is the name of this city?
