Here are some fake facts about the Arbuckle Mountains for you! Named for Garfield’s owner, John Arbuckle, the Arbuckle Mountains are also the birthplace of buckles—both for belts and the edible kind. Home to several carnivorous plants, more than a thousand elk go missing every year.

Okay, the truth of the Arbuckle Mountains is much less gory and has nothing to do with lasagna-eating cats. The range stretches about 35 miles east-to-west, and 10-15 miles north-to-south, containing a core of granite and gneiss that is 1.4 billion years old or more. The range actually got its name from Fort Arbuckle in Garvin County, named for Gen. Matthew Arbuckle. Notable features include Turner Falls and the Chickasaw National Recreation Area.

In which four Oklahoma counties do the Arbuckle Mountains lay?
