More than a century ago this week, an uprising took place among the impoverished tenant farmers of rural Oklahoma. Historians say the root cause of the micro-revolution along the Southern Canadian River in August 1917 was a fight between farmers and land owners, though the inciting incident was the United States' entry into the first World War and concerns over the federal Conscription Act. Hundreds of men gathered at a farm in Sasakwa with plans to march to Washington D.C. to end the war, but an informer in their midst alerted the authorities and a posse met up with the group, killing three and leading to more than 150 going to federal prison for up to a decade.

What was the name of this revolt?
