The end was almost never sweet for outlaws of the Wild West and that includes more than a few buried in the Sooner State. Arkansas-born Bill Doolin was part of the Dalton Gang before forming his own group, the Wild Bunch, in 1892. Pursued by law enforcement, Doolin was shot many times during his robberies, but never too seriously. Perhaps that's why he and his wife visited the healing sulphur baths of Eureka Springs, where he was captured by Deputy Marshall Bill Tilghman in 1896. But that wasn't the end for Doolin, who escaped jail in Guthrie and fled to Lawson in Oklahoma Territory. In late August, a little more than a month after his escape, Doolin was gunned down in Lawson by Deputy Marshall Heck Thomas.
The community of Lawson was renamed before statehood. What is its new name?
