October seems the most auspicious time of year for pumpkins, but in order to grow them for customers come fall, they have to be planted in the spring. That means some are already ripe for harvest and competitions for the largest pumpkins are scheduled for Dewey and Claremore in the coming weeks. Word is there may be a record broken this year for the heaviest pumpkin grown in Oklahoma, but that's for a scale to decide.
