We're all for tourism in Oklahoma, as evidenced by our many stories touting great food, luxurious accommodations, and the depth and breadth of Oklahoma history and culture. That said, some visitors are less welcome than others, specifically outlaws, like those visiting Stringtown in 1932.

Atoka County Sheriff C.G. Maxwell and Deputy Sheriff Eugene Moore tried to arrest three men at a dance in Stringtown when the trio opened fire on the lawmen. Moore was killed instantly, but Maxwell survived, albeit after being shot seven times. The firefight would come to be known as the Stringtown Shootout. The perpetrators were Raymond Hamilton, Everett Milligan, and an infamous murderer whose rap sheet would only grow longer from there. Reports differ on whether the third man's paramour was waiting in the car or if she was in Texas at the time.

Who was the third gunman in the Stringtown Shootout?
