Lizzo wasn't singing about Oklahoma specifically in her 2019 hit song "Water Me," but anyone who has experienced a Sooner State summer likely understands the lyrics, "Ooh, it's hot. I think I wanna kick off both of my socks."

And while the temperatures are climbing as July gets closer, we can at least be relieved that we're nowhere near as hot as the folks were in Poteau in 1936, which is when and where the record for the state's highest temperature was set. Oklahomans are also much more adept at handling the heat these days, with splash pads, swimming pools, and sno-cone stands dotting the landscape.

What was the hottest temperature ever recorded in Oklahoma weather?
