We’re still more than a week away from the official start of summer in Oklahoma, but the thermometers aren’t waiting for June 20 to bring the heat. Still, even as temperatures climb into the 90s, we’ve got to feel lucky it’s not 1936 again. That year three cities—Alva, Poteau, and Altus (twice)—hit the state’s record for warmest temperature recorded: 120°F. But it’s not just the heat that can get you in the Sooner State, as residents who have weathered a few winters well know.
