In April 1941, the U.S. Department of War officially ordered the creation of a supply and maintenance depot in Oklahoma City. It would go on to become the headquarters of the Air Force Material Command's Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center, tasked with managing a vast array of aircrafts, engines, components, missiles, and more around the world. It was where Douglas Aircraft produced many of the C-47 Skytrains used in World War II and continues to be a major employer in the region. Originally called the Midwest Air Depot, it was renamed after just a year in existence to honor the first Native American major general, who was born near Pawhuska in Indian Territory.
What is this military base called?
