For many Americans, the idea of tornadoes is both frightening and nostalgic. A giant funnel of destruction that reaches down from the clouds is terrifying, but it’s also how Dorothy ended up in Oz and how Bill Paxton found his way back to Helen Hunt. Oklahomans respect tornadoes enough to prepare for them, but thanks to ace meteorologists and advanced detection methods, we don’t live in constant fear. Still, when the sirens blare, we know to tune in the local forecast and get ready to seek shelter.
The number of tornadoes we get varies as much as the rest of Oklahoma's weather, meaning some years we get a lot and some we don’t see many.
What was Oklahoma’s most-tornadic year on record and how many tornadoes were recorded that year?
