From 1952 to 1967, Tulsa felt the need for speed thanks to one native son. An engineer by training and trade, this Oklahoman received thirty-five patents for his inventions, which were put into use at the company started by his father. But while his brain was a marvel for science, his heart belonged to auto racing. For fifteen years, starting in 1952, he sponsored racecars in the Indianapolis 500, winning twice. He also set a stock-auto speed record at Daytona Beach and drove his own cars in desert races until 1980.

Who was this famous racecar-loving Tulsa native?
