Founded by a lawyer who became a career politician, this town's name has nothing to do with the law.
You never can tell with Oklahoma place names, can you? For instance, if we told you there was a town in Great Plains Country that was founded by a lawyer who became a member of the Oklahoma State Senate, then joined the U.S. House of Representatives, and ended his career as a United States Senator in 1951, you might imagine the town had a very legal-sounding name. But Elmer Thomas didn’t go that route. Instead, this cobblestone resort town right at the entrance to the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge has a name that sounds like it was founded by a doctor or nurse.
What is the name of this Comanche County town?
