Oklahoma is a bit grabby with big names. We’re awfully proud of our native Oklahoman musicians, athletes, and artists, but we’ll also latch onto anyone famous who’s just passing through. That explains why New York-born author Washington Irving, creator of “Rip Van Winkle” and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” gets so much love in Oklahoma. He came through with a U.S. Army exploration unit in 1832, as chronicled in his book A Tour on the Prairies. He wrote about staying in a camp along the banks of the Arkansas River in a grove of trees in what is now a present-day Oklahoma city. That city celebrates their famous connection with the Washington Irving Park and Arboretum where local middle school students present a retelling of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” each October.

What is the name of this Washington Irving-loving city?
