How do nicknames get started? It was a pressing issue for one famous Oklahoman who hated his moniker. Charles Arthur Floyd grew up in Akins, in Sequoyah County, and he didn't waste much time getting his hands dirty. Floyd was eighteen when he was arrested for stealing $350 from a local post office and just three years later was arrested and sentenced to five years in prison for payroll robbery. Some say the latter arrest was when he gained his unwanted nickname when the payroll master who was robbed described him as "a pretty boy with apple cheeks." Pretty Boy Floyd became one of the most famous outlaws of his era, named Public Enemy No. 1 by the FBI in 1934, a few months before his death.
Where was Pretty Boy Floyd killed and where is he buried today?
