Oklahomans love our lakes. We may be landlocked away from the oceans and the Gulf of Mexico, but there’s still plenty of coastline in the Sooner State. In fact, we love our lakes so much that many of them are man made, including one sitting on the border between Latimer and Pushmataha counties. Its name comes originally from a city in the Manisa Province of Turkey, but the lake itself was named for the evacuated town that lies beneath the water. The tombstones for the old town cemetery are now located on an island on the lake, but the graves they mark are below the water.
