Music is a way of life in Oklahoma. From acclaimed singer-songwriters performing at The Blue Door in OKC to ultra-mega-super-massive arena tours alighting in the Tulsa's BOK Center, this is a state with a penchant for melodious tunes. While plenty of talent comes through the state, there are more than a few big names who are homegrown in Oklahoma's red dirt.
One big name in rock was born in Oklahoma in 1954—though not in a town, city, or village. Instead, this guitarist who is known to shred alongside legends like Carlos Santana, Michael Bolton, and Sammy Hagar, was born on a military base. His career took him around the world, performing first with Santana and later with a group he co-founded called Golden Gate Rhythm Section (which was renamed before they hit the big time), but he's still an Oklahoma original. In fact, he was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in Muskogee in 2013—four years before he made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
